The organisers of the Fin5 Orienteering Week offer open courses in addition to the competitive categories. You can participate in open courses without pre-registration. You don't need special equipment for orienteering, just normal outdoor clothing and trainers are enough, and you can rent an Emit, i.e. a competition card, from the Open courses information point. Open courses allow you to enjoy orienteering at your own pace without pressure. You can head out into the terrain alone, in a couple or with the whole family. There is a daily choice of six different open courses and FamilyRR (guiding strip marked to the map and terrain) course. There are three different difficulty levels of open courses, A, B and C. For each of these there will be both a short and a long alternative. The course options are presented at the open courses information point. Start time is free on open classes. Among the open classes participants the daily prize winners are determined through a draw. Sunday 10.7. 12.00 - 14.30
The long A and short A are challenging in terms of orienteering and are located in difficult terrain. The long B and short B courses are a degree easier. The control points are easier and paths can be used to some extent along the route. The long C and short C courses are easy and suitable for beginners. The Family-RR course, designed for the smallest in the family, is a marked route where parents can accompany their children. It is recommended to make registration for the whole week by 28th of June through the IRMA-service or form found from HERE. Before 28th of June entry the fees for open classes are 45 €/week and 25 €/week for children under 14 years. ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW OVER Registration to open courses is also possible on open courses information point at the competition centres, when entry fees are 55 €/week or 13 €/day and 31 €/week or 8 €/day for children under 14 years. FamilyRR entry fees are before 28th of June 25 €/week and after that 31 €/week or 8 €/day. Open SprintThere is an open sprint orienteering event in central Karhula on July 12th organised by Kymin Suunnistajat. Karhula is located approximately 15 km West from Hamina. The address of the event is Urheilukatu 3, Kotka. The start is open from 1 pm through to 5 pm. There is a brand new map over the area, 1:4000, with 2 m contours.
On the program there are three tracks: - Long sprint (3 - 4 km) - Short sprint (2 - 3 km) - Kids sprint (0,5 - 1 km)
The kids track doesn’t go outside the track and field area, so it is safe as there is no car traffic.
Registrations preferably through Irma as the organisers need to estimate the number of attendees, but if that isn’t possible you can also register at site. The price is 6 euros for adults. Youths under 20 years are free of charge.
Emit is used for timekeeping, but you can also run without time if you prefer. You need to have your own Emit-card. There is, however, a small amount of Emit-cards available for rent (2 euros). |
